Why did my body get so messed up?

Dr B.J Palmer was for many decades the spokesman for the chiropractic profession. An avid doctor, writer and inventor, he wrote on a daily basis on a typewriter with a roll of paper on it, rather than individual sheets, so he could just go on typing on and on and on.


Well one day he decided to tackle the question above generalizing it to: what is the cause of spinal subluxation?


He answered with the 3-Ts.

  1. Trauma - Whether it be sports, car cash, or work injury related; we have all experienced trauma and the injuries sustained in them. Many forms of trauma affect the spine and the surrounding structures and this cause of trauma is very correctable using traditional chiropractic adjustments and adjunctives such as ice, rest, etc.

  2. Toxins - Even in the early 20th century, there was tremendous interest into the relationship between the environment and the body. Obvious toxins such as lead, carbon-monoxide etc have known effects or the nervous system as do a host of Agatha Christie type poisons. However these only form a small percentage of the environmental stressors (such as allergies etc), that disturbs the body function resulting in a less than fully functioning nervous system.

  3. Thoughts - In the early 1900s stress was poorly understood, but thousands of young men returning from WWI trenches with '"shell shock” or what we now recognize as PTSD spired on research into the connection between the disturbed mind and the body. Dr Hans Selye of McGill University in Montreal spent decades researching how stress and good stress (eustress) affect the hormone systems and the nest of the body. Dr Palmer led chiropractic research investigation as to the power of the chiropractic adjustment in restoring balance to the body and minds of his patients.

So: Today we see folks stressed by living a 100 mile per hour world with information constantly bombarding us and social media demanding more and more of our attention.
